Location Shots

These are all pictures of what our locations may look like.

Student Video 2

The range of colours and effects kept us interested along with other matters

Quicker editing when the music was at a higher tempo

Interesting backdrops suited costumes and mood of music

Student Videos 1

I like the beginning of this video because of the way he is performing and there is a dilemma occurring around him. This could work in our video because we could have Jason Mraz walking down the street with arguments going on around him. However rather than sit there like some sort of tramp, our character will interfere with there business like it his own, and then everything will become magically better. Hooray.

Test Footage

Comments on Test Footage.

-We felt the intro worked well with the slow motion effect of Matt walking. Low angle shots worked well but medium shots did not look as effective. For our final video we will use more moving shots and a wider range of angles.

- I thought that speeding the shots up when the music came in, gave the footage a real good feel to it, and made it flow well.

Black and White

We are thinking of putting some of our music video in black and white. We think the scenes in the city would suit this effect and then the shots of him in the hall would be in normal colours.

An example of urbanized black and white shots are from Shane Meadows film Somers Town:

Original Music Video

Here is the original music video of The Remedy by Jason Mraz, it inspired us and we can reference back to it when needed.

Lyrics to the Song

I saw fireworks from the freeway
And behind closed eyes I cannot make them go away
'Cause you were born on the fourth of july, freedom ring
Now something on the surface it stings
I said something on the surface
Well it kind of makes me nervous
Who says that you deserve this
And what kind of god would serve this?
We will cure this dirty old disease
If you've got the poison I've got the remedy

The remedy is the experience.
This is a dangerous liaison
I say the comedy is that it's serious.
This is a strange enough new play on words
I say the tragedy is how you're gonna spend
The rest of your nights with the light on
So shine the light on all of your friends
When it all amounts to nothing in the end.

I won't worry my life away.

I won't worry my life away.

I heard two men talking on the radio
In a cross fire kind of reality show
Uncovering the ways to plan the next big attack
They were counting down the ways to stab
The brother in the be right back after this
The unavoidable kiss, where the minty fresh
Death breath is sure to outlast this catastrophy
Dance with me, because if you've got the poison,
I've got the remedy

The remedy is the experience.
This is a dangerous liaison
I say the comedy is that it's serious.
This is a strange enough new play on words
I say the tragedy is how you're gonna spend
The rest of your nights with the light on
So shine the light on all of your friends
When it all amounts to nothing in the end.

I won't worry my life away.

I won't worry my life away.

When I fall in love I take my time
There's no need to hurry when I'm making up my mind
You can turn off the sun but I'm still gonna shine and I'll tell you why

Because

The remedy is the experience.
This is a dangerous liaison
I say the comedy is that it's serious.
This is a strange enough new play on words
I say the tragedy is how you're gonna spend
The rest of your nights with the light on
So shine the light on all of your friends
When it all amounts to nothing in the end.

I won't worry my life away.

I won't worry my life away.

I won't and I won't and I won't

Another meaning whilst trying to make other people happy, is to make himself happy
our main actor as a dream of his own... to be a famous musician
The performance will have a slight twist in that, by the side of him we will set up chairs, with different hings written on them e.g "guitarist, bassist"

in the last chorus all these chairs will turn into real people playing the instruments labelled on the chair.

all the best

Characters

Jason Mraz will meet different characters, these characters will be in different difficult situations.

Start with long shot of Jason Mraz walking up road. Girl (wearing red shoes) and Boy are arguing. Boy gives her a load of mouth, and leaves her crying. She's a sobbing by the side of the road when Jason Mraz walks by and tell her to come with him. They start walking down the street with her at the start following him causiously. As he walks and sings the street around him starts brighting up in technicolour hues, and the features of the world around him become more pleasent (less cars, balloons and such). Through the first verse of the song the girl has got closer and closer to him, until there like all in arms and happy and laughing and high and such.

Eventually, they meet other characters, such as a shopworker (brushing outside with a straw broom), an engineer type person struggling to fix a car, and a cowardly guy being beaten up.

Each of these characters are in a depressing situation, and Jason Mraz lightens up these situations. Basically the music video has a Wizard of Oz theme to it. This will add depth and meaning to the piece.

Pitch 2

The Remedy - Jason Mraz

Song is about happiness and not letting things get to you. Generally being happy and spreading the joy to others.

Our idea contains an actor (jason mraz) walking through different settings meeting different people with troubles, he will then uplift the situation. e.g. shot of tramp, shot of jason mraz offering red clown nose, next shot of tramp in clown outfit doing tricks for children.

There will be a separate character and setting for each verse of the song whilst the chorus is of jason mraz performing on stage to a women sitting in the middle of this big hall. Her identity is hidden till the end where we find out this beautiful women is JOE.

Prologue
- Jason Mraz walks into hall with guitar, walks past women (joe) and strokes her hair and then walks onto stage and music begins.

SHOT TYPES - hall scene

Long side shot with jason mraz and girl at either end of shot (western shot)
Close up handheld shots for intense part of chorus
Quick moving shot of women - maintains mystery (move up and down and around body - sexuality)
low angle shot of jason mraz's feet in foreground with girl in background
and more

Pitch 1

This is not part of our proper pitch
Pretty Girl - Vincent Vincent & The Villains

Settings - The street, his bedroom, a supermarket/market square

The lyrics of the song are very narrative and we believe we could make a music video following the story behind the lyrics. For example, when it says, 'Sometimes I see her walking past my window, as i stare out vacantly.' This is a perfect opportunity to show what is happening with some effective but simple shots.

We will give the performance shots a bit of an edge, and in every performance shot, the "pretty girl" will be in the shot, looking on, without them knowing.

'I think she saw me
Whoa oh oh oh oh
well she didn’t see me at all
I went'

For this part, we will show a very amusing scene, where the main performer is getting ready to accidentally bump into the pretty girl. He is wearing a suit and has with him a rose for her. He then sees her on the other side of the street but she doesn't see him, and then a car whizzes past and covers him with water!

'Well just the other day i was buying some food at my local Tesco store,
And i turned around and saw her there walking down aisle four.'

This verse is very narrative and we can film exactly what is going on, i.e. the pretty girl in the supermarket and the main performer seeing her in aisle 4 etc.

In the first, the pair havent encountered yet, and he is just thinking about what he wants to do with her.
'Well how I wish we could meet and have something to eat,
Or maybe we can go for a dance'
we will show him sitting in his bedroom and a speech bubble will come from his head showing him doing all the things that he wants to do.

Student Videos similar to ours

We believe this is similar because like our ideas the video is very narrative.
